Holistic Nurturing for the Sensitive Soul
Hello Everyone!
I realize I haven’t posted to either of my blogs in awhile. August and September were very busy months for me, and I had to let some things slide. Today’s post is about one of the things which got neglected through those busy months…battery recharging! Having learned the hard way about the importance of self-care several years ago, I decided it was time to spend the week nurturing myself. I had a great time and thought I’d share my experiences and some wonderful holistic practitioners and businesses that you might also enjoy sampling. I also wanted to share some of the tools I use to keep myself in balance. Tools which I need to get back into my daily routine now that my week of rest is coming to an end.
Here’s how my week went…
Monday and Tuesday I dedicated to reacquainting myself with the wonders of yoga mudras and music. My favorite mudra book is by Sabrina Mesko called Power Mudras Yoga Hand Postures for Women (available in the Sanctuary bookstore). I love how she provides a series of three simple postures to hold (each only needing to be held 3 minutes) to address a variety of topics (such as…the Feminine Spirit, Motherhood, For the Computer, Know What You Want, Be Nice to Yourself, etc). I had forgotten what a huge difference it makes when I start my day with yoga mudras!
Music was the other thing I rediscovered this week. I had great fun going through my CD’s and picking out ones to relax to and one’s to dance to. Music is amazing! So many types to choose from…each able to evoke different emotions and experiences. I’m really enjoying Natasha Bedingfeld’s Pocket Full of Sunshine CD. It really is filled with sunshine! It is so nice to finally have found a female singer with upbeat music and lyrics that aren’t depressing!
On Wednesday, I went to a yoga class taught by Sanctuary member, Lisa Deckert. It was a lot of fun! I love how Lisa keeps her class at a level beginner’s can enjoy and yet offers ways to extend for those who need more challenge. I also loved that the class was only one hour long! That was the perfect length for me. Check out Lisa’s member page to read an interview with her and to learn more about what she has to offer. Thanks Lisa for a great class and thanks to Dee Curci (another Sanctuary member) for the recommendation to try it out!
On Thursday, I bought myself a lavender candle and went to see a “just for fun” movie with my husband. If you are a dog lover, check out Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It certainly wasn’t high brow entertainment, but it was a lot of fun!
On Friday, I went out to Inner Harmony Wellness Center in Strongsville with my good friend and fellow Sanctuary member, Lori Byrnes (check out Lori’s member page to learn more about her… she’s an amazing intuitive healer and massage therapist). Lori and her daughter came along to sample a healing session with Inner Harmony co-owner, Corky Larson, which featured Native American drumming and Tibetan bowls. I loved the drumming and the bowls! I couldn’t decide which I liked better. I can feel energy pretty strongly and they both really helped to clear and balance my chakras…in a very gentle and peaceful way. Corky was wonderful! Lori and her daughter both really enjoyed their sessions as well. And of course, I had to purchase some goodies from the Inner Harmony store! I bought a beautiful amethyst rock, a selenite worry stone, and some heavenly Tiger Cedar soap. I just love that place! Check it out if you are in the Strongsville, Ohio area.
My grand finale was an amazing elemental reflexology session with Sanctuary member, Judy Tancinco, of Aquarian Elements. I’ve been seeing Judy for polarity and other wise woman healing off and on for the last three years. Every time I leave having let go of something I was ready to part ways with and rebalanced for the time ahead. I am a HUGE fan of the elemental reflexology. I have had some trouble with energy work before because of my high sensitivity, but the reflexology seems to be more easily tolerated…probably because it is so grounding to have my feet worked on! Check out Judy’s member page for more information on what she does.
