An Interview with Buddy…
1. When did your business or organization get started? What circumstances led to its creation?
I have been a holistic nurse for 23 years. I pursued formal study of natural healing in the 1990’s when my own immune system broke down from poor lifestyle choices as a busy inner city emergency room nurse. I burned out and became sick with severe viral illnesses for about one year. Conventional medical doctors told me to “rest and drink fluids”. My run down condition worsened and I could barely function. A colleague inspired me to pursue natural strategies and better self-care. I began reading everything I could on “how to build a better immune system”. I learned that very simple strategies like improved nutrition, more sleep and dealing with emotional issues made me heal. My passion for holistic/integrative health exploded, as I saw my own health and family members health improve. I enrolled in Clayton College of Natural Health and over a 10 year period obtained a Masters of Science in Natural Health and Doctor of Naturopathy Degree.
2. What inspires you to help others?
I get great satisfaction when I help others, because it is so exciting to teach people about a “whole other way of healing” that many people are unaware of. There are so many modalities that can improve health that our conventional medical system does not embrace.
3. What is your greatest success story with a client?
My greatest success story was working with a female with the complaint of burning mouth syndrome and fibromyalgia, who saw 13 doctors who could not help her. After I performed a holistic/wellness assessment regarding her body/mind/spirit issues, I spent 5 – 1 hour sessions with her, using the Wellness Inventory Wheel as an outline. (This wheel can be viewed on my website at www.holisticwellnessbuddy.com). We reviewed all 12 dimensions of her life, educated her on simple strategies to improve her health and taught her simple stress reduction strategies. At the end of 5 – 1 hour sessions, she had 90% improvement of her symptoms, which are still managed well 3 years later.
4. What would people be surprised to know about you?
That I am a shy, introverted person who loves to dance.
5. What are your favorite books and movies?
Books: The Wellness Workbook by John Travis and Regina Sara Ryan
The Answer is Simple…Love Yourself, Live Your Spirit by Sonia Choquette
Personal Power through Awareness by Sanaya Roman
The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
The Art of Extreme Self-Care by Cheryl Richardson
Movies:
Letters to God
The Ultimate Gift
The Christmas Shoes
6. What do you love to do when you aren’t working?
Dancing, Jogging, Scrapbooking
