An Interview with Laurie…

1. When did your business or organization get started? What circumstances led to its creation?

I started my business in 2003 after a long history of working for large and regional accounting firms. I had struggled to find a company I felt comfortable working for so decided it was time to start one of my own. I started the company with three values that I wanted to bring to the firm and clients: Health, Happiness and Light and named my firm (HHL Group) after those values so I would be reminded of them continually. I have tried to bring those ideas into all the work I have done through offering business advice in addition to the traditional accounting services I offer. I see myself as more of a financial coach, business consultant and trusted advisor to my clients rather than simply an accounting and tax service provider.

2. What inspires you to help others?

Joy: I believe that we are here to experience joy and through helping others I experience joy.

3. What is your greatest success story with a client?

It is difficult to point to just one story with a client. I have helped a number of clients become more successful in their business but the stories I am most proud of are from start up businesses that came to me with little financial experience. I was able to assist them through setting up their financial systems, learning how to use those systems to grow their business and then continuing to support them with financial services and advice.

4. What would people be surprised to know about you?

The struggle I have trying to bring my spiritual side in line with the pragmatic, practical accountant side and the wild, fun loving side that always has the fire burning to learn and explore.

5. What are your favorite books and movies?

I read constantly and I love all types of books. I usually have several going at the same time! As far as movies, I enjoy any kind of romantic comedy.

6. What do you love to do when you aren’t working?

Spending time with my children, exercising, traveling, gardening and reading.
